Fight back against Soquel Creek Water District's continued permitting of developments that use up our precious water! Come give your voice at the meeting of the Water Board on Tuesday June 3rd!
Soquel SOS has been formed by a group of Soquel Creek Watershed residents to promote a moratorium on all new water hookups (called “Will Serve” notices) until such time as water conservation efforts succeed and our aquifer’s balance has been restored. For over 15 years the Soquel Creek Water Board has allowed overpumping of the aquifer, draining more water from the 40 square mile area than has been restored by rainfall and subsurface percolation. Salt water intrusion into the aquifer is now a clear and present danger. The dual dangers of salt in our drinking water and an extended drought have now brought us to a crisis point. Soquel SOS urges all concerned residents of Santa Cruz County to attend the Soquel Water Board meeting on Tuesday June 3rd at 7pm to be held at the Performing Arts Center at new Brighton Middle School in Capitola on the corner of Monterey Avenue and Washburn Street.. This public meeting is being held to focus exclusively on a potential moratorium on all new hookups until such time as conservation and rationing succeed in reducing overconsumption of water, our most precious and threatened community asset. We urge all concerned users and residents to sign the moratorium petition on our website SoquelSOS.org and to attend the Tuesday June 3rd at 7pm meeting at New Brighton Middle School.
Do print out and fill in the petition (click on this link to open the pdf) and bring it to the meeting!
